CADILLAC SELECTS ‘ESCALADE’ AS NAME FOR NEW SUV

DETROIT -- Cadillac announced that its new full-size sport utility
vehicle will carry the name "Escalade" when it debuts as a 1999
model later this year.
Escalade (pronounced es-kuh-laid) was chosen following a selection
process including Cadillac dealers and target customers. Escalade
means to climb or scale.
"Escalade is the right name for a vehicle that will reach a new level
of prestige in the full-size sport utility segment," said Dave Nottoli,
brand manager for Escalade. "Escalade will help Cadillac offer a
broader portfolio of products to luxury consumers who are also
considering sport utility vehicles when renewing their leases or making their next purchase."
Based on General Motors’ full-size sport utility platform, Escalade
will be Cadillac’s first truck ever in its 96-year history. It also
represents the first product in Cadillac’s long-term strategy to stake
out a significant presence in the sport utility vehicle segment by
combining the strengths of today’s SUVs with the refinements and
customer-focused technology and services associated with the
Cadillac brand.

Additional details about the Escalade will be shared with the media at Cadillac’s 1999 model year previews later this year.
